Micah Johnson Passes Through Waivers

April 11, 2015

Nice FA pick up by Burger without losing his spot in line.

Micah Johnson, 2014 MLE:  415 AB, 4 HR, 15 SB, .242, .302 OBP

Not bad for his age-24 season. 5/20, maybe 8/20 seems within reach this year with playing time at 2B.

And that seems like it’ll be there.  The White Sox finally realize, even if they can’t quit Gordon Beckham (they did trade him away last year, briefly), with 63 HR in 2670 career AB and a middling 29/18 SB/CS, Beckham’s not the answer. Beckham couldn’t get on base in seven years in the majors (.307 OBP) and even minimal growth in that department from Micah Johnson will be an improvement.

This desk is rather heavy with MI, so Micah Johnson was never going to be a play for us, but there’s a lot of garbage floating around the league. Consider us surprised that nobody tried to claim an upside kid with the ability to turn singles into doubles.
