Brave New World

February 28, 2017

Saget is heading out to one of his Scientology “Management” Seminars in Clearwater, FL, and thought he’d make the best of it by checking out some Spring Training ball. Pictures to follow. He was somewhat shocked to get the below in his e-mail after buying Yankees tickets. “WTF…..Mexicans, Arabs, Trump?!”

Mendoza says this is par for the course just about anywhere now, including the annual Oldies Rock concert that Mendoza goes to where, in his mid 40s, he’s one of the yungsters in the crowd.

I guess times are changing. Anyway, new security at Steinbrenner Field:

Attention Fans!
This message is being sent on behalf of the Steinbrenner Field in regards to your upcoming event.
New York Yankees 2017 Spring Training
Steinbrenner Field
As the newly renovated Steinbrenner Field opens for its 22nd season in 2017, fans attending home spring training Yankees games are strongly encouraged to arrive early and budget an appropriate amount of time for MLB-mandated metal detection screening upon entry.
These procedures, which will begin with the home opener on Friday, February 24 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, have been instituted as a result of Major League Baseball’s continuing work with the Department of Homeland Security to standardize security practices across the game. Metal detection screening, which will be done by security officers using hand-held wands, will be in addition to bag checks that were previously in place at Steinbrenner Field and uniform throughout Major League Baseball.
“While all of us at Steinbrenner Field look forward to fans enjoying the many new enhancements made to the stadium this season, the safety of our guests is — and will always be — our top priority,” said Steinbrenner Field Vice President of Operations Dean Holbert. “We are wholly committed to the safely protocols enacted throughout Major League Baseball and will make every effort to maintain appropriate security measures.”
As part of the recent Steinbrenner Field enhancement project, a new entrance for fans has been installed in right field off the pedestrian overpass that extends from the Raymond James Stadium parking lot over Dale Mabry Highway. This gate has been added to ease entry for fans and will be in addition to the preexisting gate in the main plaza by the team store.
Please note the following security protocols for the 2017 home spring schedule at Steinbrenner Field:
  • All fans entering Steinbrenner Field will be subject to handheld metal detectors per Major League Baseball’s requirements for all spring training and regular season stadiums.
  • The new metal detection procedures are in addition to the already established bag check policy which prohibits the admission of bags larger than 16″ x 16″ x 8″ into Steinbrenner Field.
  • Fans must remove all objects from their pockets — including but not limited to cell phones, cameras, keys and other large metal items — prior to screening by metal detectors.
  • Fans will not be required to remove shoes and belts unless specifically asked by a security officer.
  • Re-entry into the stadium on game days will not be permitted.
  • Steinbrenner Field will not store any prohibited items. Fans taking public transportation to the game are asked to take special note.
  • Steinbrenner Field gates will open to fans with valid tickets 2 hours prior to every home game.
  • Parking lots will open 3 hours prior to every home game.
Thanks for being a fan!
